Poppy ScotlandPoppies have now arrived in school and are available for children to buy from 3rd November.

School’s 60th BirthdayBilly Manson has very generously donated two huge birthday cakes to be shared amongst the children at an assembly this week.  We hope Billy will answer questions about school life all these years ago!

School Improvement Plan – Literacy – This year we are having a major focus on Literacy.  All pupils in P1 to P3 will be receiving a Book Bug Pack (P1) or a Read, Write and Count Pack (P2 and P3) to help support children and families.  This ties in well with our planned library refurbishment.  We will also be offering Parental Engagement Sessions for parents of P1 and P3 pupils.  These will be run by Mr McAlonan, our Support for Learning Teacher and there will be four sessions, each lasting about an hour on Thursdays or Fridays from 2pm to 3pm.  More details will follow, but I do know that each one starts with tea and cakes!  Children in P4 to P7 are very motivated with the First Minister’s Reading Challenge.  Click here for stocking filler ideas! www.readingchallenge.scot/begin-your-journey

We make very good use of the mobile library service and are also keen to foster links with the library in Thurso.  Staff from the library plan to visit the school to read stories and provide activities.  This will be for infants and their parents.  We will let you know the dates when they are confirmed.

Parent CouncilThe next meeting takes place on Tuesday 15th November at 7.15pm in the school library.

Hi-Vis Tabards Now that the dark days are upon us, the Junior Road Safety Officers have distributed tabards to all pupils in P1. P2 and P3 will have theirs from last year.  If your child needs a larger size, just let us know.  Please make sure your child wears his/hers each day.

Blythswood Boxes Thank you to everyone for your amazing generosity.  We collected over 60 boxes.
