Happy New Year to all families.  I hope you had a wonderful festive time.

Highland Hospice – Thank you for your donations on Christmas Jumper Day.  We collected £97 and made it up to £100 which has now been donated to the hospice.

Swimming – I am not sure yet when lessons restart but will be in touch with details as soon as we hear from the pool.

Fund Raising from Hamper Raffles – £997 was raised for Parent Council Funds.  Thank you!

Burns Lunch – This takes place on Wednesday 25th January and children are welcome to wear tartan for the day.  Classes will be doing activities in their classes also.

Literacy Promotion – We are delighted to have been awarded a funding grant from the Scottish Book Trust to cover the costs of having an author visit the school.  We will give you more information when we find out who is coming to the school.

Homework – At the last Parent Council Meeting the subject of Homework was discussed. This term we are going to draft a new Homework Policy to try and give more flexibility and creativity to homework.  This will be easier for our older pupils.  Younger pupils will still need regular support with reading, phonics and number bonds.  We will review and ask for feedback before the summer holidays.  More details will follow.

Reading Together 1st Steps Project – We will be offering this home/school partnership initiative to parents of all P1 pupils.  The sessions will be on Thursday afternoons and more details will be given to P1 parents.

Curricular Mornings/Afternoons – Dates for these events will be given out next month.

Caithness and Sutherland Women’s Aid – This local organisation can be contacted on 0345 4080151 or at It also supports children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

Class Photos – This year we have decided to try Shoot Bamboo, another photography company to take the P7 photo.  We have also decided to have class groups of all classes taken.  Parents can then have a look at the pictures and decide if they would like to buy one.  If you don’t wish your child to be included in the picture, please let us know.  Photos will be taken on Tuesday 7th March.

February Holiday – School will be closed to pupils on 20th,21st and 22nd February.
